Cautions:
Use with caution in cases with excess pathogens. Overdosage (30-60g) can lead to such toxic side effects as throat pain, vertigo, impaired vision, spasms of the legs, loss of balance, disorientation, and loss of voice. In very high doses (over 60g per day) side effects such as precordial discomfort and cardiac arrhythmia have been reported. Symptoms disappeared when use of the herb was discontinued.

Consists of thick, pliable roots with a thin outer bark, a "chrysanthemum-heart" in cross section, and a sweet taste. Thin, lightweight roots are of inferior quality.
