Added ''Post'' '''Never Market Again''' to forum "Professionals Sharing their Services" on ''2/14/2008''
"For most practitioners, their single biggest source of new patients is referrals from old patients. Unfortunately these referrals usually aren't consistent or frequent enough to build a clinic. "Never Market Again" explains how to naturally and consistently get referrals, and also how to get existing patients to come back more often for treatment. http://www.AcupunctureClinicMarketing.com/book explains."

Added ''Post'' '''toe sores case''' to forum "Case Studies" on ''2/10/2008''
"Hi all~ I have a patient with an interesting case. I am not sure if I am approaching it from the right angle. Any & all feedback and suggestions are welcome and appreciated. Thanks!

Male, 51 yoa c/c: sores on toes, occurs every Feb. and lasts until around May. Has had this for 10+ years. These sores are painful, itchy, hot, irritated. They begin as small, light red circles about 1cm wide, and after about a week a small lighter center circle emerges (w/red border)- feels like a thorn is in the center. Then it fades away as does the itching/pn/irritation. As some are fading new ones are emerging. His doc has run numerous studies: biopsies, coagulation tests, circulation tests, all are (-). He has even been the subject of a specialty panel which consisted of several experts (mostly dermatologists) in Santa Barbara and no one knew what his condition was.

Symptom exacerbated when he had the flu a few weeks ago. In Feb, his demands at work are significantly..."

Understanding chemical dependence from an AOM perspective module 1: Introduction
Aim:

Drugs (including alcohol) are everywhere and lots of people use them. Many of these people don’t have any problems, however those that do may not know it - or if they do, they may not know what to do about it...

You, as an AOM practitioner can help!

This module aims to equip practitioners of AOM with accurate information about different types of drugs, their physiological effects, health consequences and strategies to reduce harms associated with alcohol or other drug use.

This session is the first in a series of education modules about chemical dependence facilitated by Katherine Berry, a licensed acupuncturist, health educator and addiction medicine specialist from Australia.

Overview:

Many people in the community who use alcohol or recreational drugs do not come under the attention of mainstream health services. These people are likely to be in the care of, or seek treatment with alternative health practitioners.

It is paramount that we as primary health care clinicians have access to up to date information about drugs and their short and long term health consequences.

There are a wide range of legal and illicit drugs available in our community. These drugs are all pharmacologically diverse. They have different psychotropic and physiological effects, likeability, abuse liability and dependence potential. That is, their effects and consequences are diverse… as are the reasons for people using them!

Alcohol and other drug use doesn’t just effect individuals. It impacts on families, relationships and the whole community. Your clients may be affected indirectly by their partner, parent, family member or friend’s drug use.

"各家學說 Gè Jiā Xué Shuō A seminar on the topic of currents in Chinese Medicine Historical Thought

February 16-17, 2008, 9am-5pm, at Wu Hsing Tao School, Talaris World Campus, Bldg D, 4000 NE 41st St, 98105 (just east of the UW Center for Urban Horticulture)

A weekend seminar serving as an introduction to the study of different schools of thought within Chinese medicine. The emphasis in this course will be a detailed examination of the clinical relevance of some historically important doctors and their treatment strategies: an introduction to a richer, more classical approach to Chinese herbal medicine – in distinct contrast to the distilled version of Chinese medicine named “TCM.”

The instructor, Jin Zhao, is about to complete a Ph.D at the Chengdu University of TCM, where he teaches a full semester-length version of this course. A talented teacher and translator as well as a practicing doctor, he has special expertise on the subject of Li Dongyuan (famous author of..."

Added ''Pearl'' "Great Little Trick for Tension Between Shoulder Blades" on ''11/14/2007'':
Neck and shoulder tension is one of the most common issues we see because our computer/cell phone/driving culture conspires against our upper backs and necks. Try this simple trick when doing an upper back treatment.

Get 2 towels and roll them so that they create round pillows. Put one under each shoulder between the pectoralis and anterior deltoid muscles (around Lung 1 and Lung 2 areas). This creates a gentle stretch in the front and will relax the rhomboid and levator scapula muscles between the shoulder blades.

Next needle the outer shu points (Urinary Bladder 41 to Urinary Bladder 44) and any ashi points you find in that area. You can also do some cupping or tui na in this position. You're patients will love you unconditionally after this, I guarantee it!

Cheers.
